Upon arrival in Windhoek, Namibia’s lovely capital city, Pick up your rental car and go to Okonjima Plains Camp for the night. Relax on the wooden veranda or take a dip in the camp’s swimming pool, but make sure to stop by the Africat project to learn more about the local carnivores.

Before hopping in your rental car and heading to the Onguma Private Game Reserve on the edge of the Etosha National Park, have breakfast at Okonjima Plains Camp. You don’t need to travel far to witness wildlife; simply check into Onguma Bush Camp and relax while enjoying a cool beverage on the lodge’s game-viewing platform that looks out over the waterhole that is frequently visited. Enjoy self-drive excursions around Etosha over the course of the following two days. The park is simple to navigate, offers a great mix of traditional savannah game species and desert specialists, and is a popular destination for predators, black rhinos, and elephants.

After breakfast, go to the untamed Damaraland region, where you will spend the next two nights. Although it appears to be a deserted location at first appearance, it is actually a very beautiful environment with surprising amounts of species. Before watching the sunset from the roof, cool down in the pool or have a drink at the bar. After it becomes dark, enjoy some breathtaking stargazing.

Visit Twyfelfontein to observe ancient San (Bushman) rock carvings, which are part of Africa’s biggest collection of prehistoric rock art. Enjoy game viewing in this untamed yet rewarding area’s dry riverbeds, thorny thickets, and various species, especially the secretive elephants that have adapted to the desert.

You’ll travel by car this morning to the Swakopmund Guesthouse in the sleepy German colonial town of Swakopmund, which is located on Namibia’s Atlantic coast. Namibia’s adventure playground offers a variety of adventurous activities, including quad biking on neighboring sand dunes, sky diving, and sand boarding, to mention a few. You can also stroll through the welcoming streets and stop by specialty stores, cafes, and coffee shops.

Before departing Swakopmund’s coast, take in breakfast and perhaps one final activity. As you travel over the wide Namib Desert to the Kulala Desert Lodge, take in the untamed, lunar-like landscape of the Kuiseb Valley. Swim in the pool to cool down, or kick back on your chalet’s rooftop terrace to watch the sun set over the desert plains.

Get up early and travel with a guide to Sossusvlei to see the renowned red dunes up close. These dunes are reputed to be among the tallest in the world, rising up to 300 meters, and you can see for yourself by stopping at Dune 45 and ascending to the top. Afternoon nature walk around the lodge’s exclusive reserve with your guide.

Experience the magnificent Namib scenery from above in a hot-air balloon, and then finish your Namibian self-drive trip in Windhoek. Return the rental car to the airport and board your departing aircraft.
