14 Days Malawi Family Safari Vacation

Description

There is nothing quite like seeing a child go on safari for the first time and seeing their wide-eyed awe. Safari vacations are fantastic for the entire family, regardless of age, and are educational, interesting, and thrilling. The ideal blend of an exhilarating bush and boat safari and relaxing lakeside living is included in our family-friendly Malawi itinerary, leaving you rested and revitalized with priceless family memories to take home. On this family excursion you will visit different exciting tourism destination Malawi has to offer, these includes Majete Wildlife Reserve, Liwonde National Park, Cape Maclear.

Majete Wildlife Reserve spans around 700km2 of the Lower Shire Valley’s hilly, a very tough wilderness; it has been heavily protected and restocked with animals since about 2003. The park was first visited in 2011, and it already seems like it’s competing to be Malawi’s most fascinating wildlife reserve. The large, swift-moving Shire River, which originates in Lake Malawi and empties into the Zambezi River in the south, forms the eastern boundary of the park.

Liwonde National Park is located in Malawi, the “warm heart of Africa,” and it is known for its stunning wildlife translocations, reintroductions, and makeovers. When African Parks took over management of Liwonde in 2015, in partnership with the Department of National Parks and Wildlife (DNPW), the park was littered with tens of thousands of wire snares – more snares than large animals – and had some of the worst levels of human-wildlife conflict in the region.

Itinary in details

When you land in Malawi, you’ll be greeted by your local guide and taken in a private transfer to Game Haven Lodge, which is about an hour away from the airport. You’ll be staying in a Sable family room for two nights. The following day is yours to tour Chimwenya Game Park. There are lots of things to do to keep the whole family occupied, like swimming in Lake Bvumbwe as giraffes watch over you, riding horses, swimming in the pool, fishing for bass and tilapia, and scaling the rock climbing wall.

After a leisurely breakfast and check-out, you’ll have around a two-hour journey to the Mkulumadzi Lodge in the Majete Wildlife Reserve. This resort is the most elegant in Majete, located at the junction of the Shire and Mkulumadzi rivers. It’s the ideal spot to make treasured family experiences because there are no age restrictions and a ton of family-friendly activities available. You’ll spend two nights in this opulent family chalet. Other possible activities include boating safaris, viewing hides, shorter family-friendly nature walks to identify droppings, seeds, and feathers, and cultural trips to local communities to learn about the way of life in Malawi.

Enjoy your morning activities and breakfast before checking out for your own scenic transfer to Liwonde. Enjoy this beautiful trip through the mountains, which will take around four hours, and pack a big lunch to eat along the way. You’ll be there in time for afternoon tea. Arrive in Liwonde and check into Mvuu Lodge, where you’ll spend three nights in a family tent in the safari style. Since there are no barriers between camp and the surrounding wilderness, nature freely roams through it, and you will frequently see antelope, zebra, and elephants foraging close, you don’t need to travel far to get a sense of being on safari.

You will take a boat across the river for your private transfer to Cape Maclear, which will take about 1.5 hours after your morning activities and brunch. You will spend the next four nights at Makokola Retreat in a luxurious sunset villa with your own private pool and terrace with breathtaking views over Lake Malawi. The resort is located on its own 750m-long, palm-lined beach on the southern bank of Lake Malawi. Get active on land by playing tennis, volleyball, racquetball, or a round of golf on the 18-hole course. After that, take a dip in the pool and eat something at the restaurant. The fresh pizza and gelato here are amazing and are owned by Italians. Whatever you do, after a tiring day of exploration, get back to Makokola and treat yourself to a massage or other spa service.

Before your private transfer, which will take about 3.5 hours, return to Lilongwe, take advantage of a relaxing morning and brunch. You’ll make a pit stop in Dedza, Malawi’s tallest town, which is situated in a stunning environment of hills and woods with the Dedza Mountain looming behind the town. You will have the opportunity to visit Dedza ceramics to see and purchase the exquisitely designed traditional handmade ceramics.

You will spend one night at the cozy boutique hotel Heuglins Lodge in a Lilongwe neighborhood with lush vegetation. It’s the ideal location for you to recuperate and unwind before your tomorrow’s international journey thanks to its distinctive decor, fantastic food, and tranquil grounds.

You will check out and take your last private transfer to Kamazu International Airport for your international journey home following a great home-cooked breakfast.
