2 Days Rwanda Gorilla safari in Volcanoes National Park

Description

This 2-day Rwanda gorilla safari is intended for those who are interested in seeing mountain gorillas in Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. The northern region of Rwanda is where you’ll find the Volcanoes National Park. It is a part of the larger Virunga conservation area, which includes Mgahinga National Park and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Mgahinga National Park in Uganda and Virunga National Park in the Democratic Republic of the Congo borders the 160 square kilometer park. The Volcanoes national park used to be a much larger park that reached as far as the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The park lost some of its territory to the Congo’s Virunga National Park after the Democratic Republic of the Congo gained independence. When Dian Fossey set up camp in the park in 1967, it became known throughout the world. In order to construct her gorilla research center between Mount Karisimbi and Bisoke, the eminent primatologist had to leave the Congo due to security concerns. . Although poaching was prevalent in the park, she fought the criminals tenaciously through her campaigns and fundraising efforts.

In 1985, Fossey was assassinated in her bedroom by those who were allegedly making money from poaching. Together with a few of her favorite gorillas, she is interred in a tomb at her former research facility. It is Dian Fossey who is credited with making important discoveries about mountain gorillas. Heavy poaching would likely have killed off mountain gorillas in the absence of her efforts. Fossey found a means to get the gorillas used to being around people, which opened the door for what is now known as gorilla tourism. Small-scale poaching persisted after Fossey’s passing, and the 1994 civil war continued to endanger the gorillas. But at this point, everyone was aware of mountain gorillas and the need to protect them.

Five of the eight volcanoes in the Virunga Mountains are located in the Volcanoes National Park. These include Gahinga, Muhabura, Bisoke, Sabinyo, Karisimbi, and Sabinyo. Hence, following gorilla trekking, mountain climbing is a tremendously sought-after pastime. Karisimbi and Bisoke are the most frequently visited volcanoes by hikers. For those seeking a more thorough primates safari, golden monkey trekking in Rwanda is also highly well-liked. gorilla trekking still remains the most popular activity.
