Victoria Falls is the most stunning sight in Africa. This massive curtain waterfall, which is one of the Seven Natural Wonders of the World, is located on the boundary between Zimbabwe and Zambia, where the powerful Zambezi River thunders 108 meters down into a small ravine to create a waterfall that is one mile wide. Without going to Victoria Falls, a trip to Southern Africa isn’t complete. Both the Zambian and the Zimbabwean sides can be used to access the falls. Also the town in Zimbabwe and the town in Zambia also go by the names Victoria Falls and Livingstone, respectively. Both places offer a range of lodging alternatives, are well-known tourist hotspots, and are secure.
Upon arrival, a Dav safaris representative will meet you at Livingstone Airport on the Zambian side of the falls and transport you to your hotel. (Flights from Johannesburg, Cape Town, and other locations are not included but can be arranged for you on an extra cost.) Your guide will take you on your first guided tour of the falls following check-in and a quick change of clothes. This will help you become accustomed to your surroundings and place. In the late evening you will be transferred to your hotel for dinner and a night stay.
Before breakfast, you might wish to take a stroll down to the falls. With varying illumination during the day, the falls look in a variety of ways. The famed falls rainbow changes with the sun’s position and when shadowed in the morning mist, giving the scene a softer, more atmospheric feel. Today, we recommend doing a white-water rafting excursion (extra, fee). Rafting is done in the Batoka Gorge, which has high walls and is located beneath the falls. Other possible activities include going to the Elephant Sanctuary, doing a helicopter flip over the falls, traveling to Livingstone Island, and going to the Devil’s Pool (during certain seasons). Enjoy the “Captain’s Cabin” (included) sunset sail on the Zambezi River this evening as you visit islands in the river and along the beach. Elephants and hippos are frequently seen swimming to and from the islands, as are the occasional antelope by the river. This cruise offers a variety of drinks, as well as canapés and light fare.
After breakfast, take one more stroll to the falls before meeting your driver for the trip back to the airport to catch your flight back home.
