3 Day Mountain Rwenzori Hiking, In close proximity to Virunga National Park, Mountain Rwenzori National Park is situated in the south-western region of Uganda, on the border with the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Three districts, Kabarole, Kasese, and Bundibugyo, form the park’s borders. It is estimated that the park’s total land area is 387 square kilometers. Too many people refer to it as “mountain of the moon” due to its well-known natural beauty, which rewards with breathtaking views of lush flora, uncommon species, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, and mountains. Due to its uniqueness, it is beneficial for tourists that go there in search of adventure. Thus, that is the reason the UNESCO designated it a world historic site in 1994. Uganda Wildlife Authority is in charge of managing the park.

Mountain Rwenzori was formed 3 million years ago in late Pliocene epoch as a result of uplifting block of crystalline rocks including gneiss, amphibolite. The uplift divided the paleo lake ‘’obweruka’’ and created three of present-day African great lakes, Lake Albert, Lake, Edward and Lake George. Rwenzori national park is the last explored and undiscovered national park in Uganda because of the spectacular scenic view of green vegetation, brilliant peaks like Gessi, Emin among others. Mountain Rwenzori has several activities practiced by travelers and these include mountain climbing and Hiking.

Mountain Rwenzori National Park has different mountain ranges which are the main components of the park and one of the mountain range is ranked as the 3nd highest mountain ranges in Africa. These mountain ranges include mount Speke which is 5th in Africa, mount bakers which is number 4 in Africa and the famous mount Stanley’s peak also known as Margherita which is the third highest peak in Africa which raises 5109 meters. Other small ranges include mount Luigi da Savoia, mount Gessi, Mount Emin pashs.

Itinary in details

You will be picked up from the airport or guest house after breakfast to begin your three-day hike via the Mountain Rwenzori in Kasese. You should expect to spend about 8 hours driving. You will stop in Mubede for lunch before continuing on to Kasese to spend the night at a hotel nearby while you get ready for the following day’s walk.

You will move to the mountain’s foothills to begin the ascent from 1,450 to Sine Hut 2,680m, where you spend the night. This trip begins at the bottom of the valley through the large forest trees of the Afro Montane Forest Zone and continues with a gradual rise with a variety of birds and a chance to observe blue monkeys scampering through the forest. Visitors occasionally have the chance to witness groups of 15 to 20 black and white Colobus monkeys swinging through the trees. Rare sightings of the L’Hoest monkey, one of the cultural symbols of the Bukonzo people who are protected by the King or Omusinga, are possible. You may also hear wild chimpanzee in the vicinity. From forest trees to bamboo thickets, low shrubs, flowers, mushrooms, and numerous moss and lichen covered vines dangling from the tall trees, the area is home to a broad range of plant species. About 200 meters from Sine Hut, Enock’s falls present a wonderful opportunity to create a wonderful screensaver for your memories.

Return to the mountain after breakfast and travel back to Kampala Entebbe to conclude your three-day mountain trekking vacation in time for your flight home.
