Hwange National Park is renowned for having large elephant herds. The park was built on desert land, therefore waterholes and pans were artificially created by extensive water pumping during the dry season to help huge herbivores and powerful predators like lions survive. Nineteen large herbivores and eight large carnivores are among the more than a hundred mammal and 400 bird species that can be found in the park. Gemsbok and brown hyena are protected species, but it’s also possible to see elephants, lions, leopards, African wild dogs, spotted hyenas, and cheetahs. Hwange is home to a sizable percentage of all the animals that are specifically protected in Zimbabwe. Hwange was first established in 1928 as a game reserve and became a national park in 1961. The park’s wildlife is officially protected, making it illegal for humans to hunt or prey on species that are vulnerable.
When you arrive at Victoria Falls Airport, your guide/driver will meet you and transport you to your lodge. If you drive safely, it will take you two hours to get there. Depending on animal movement, we will go for a late-afternoon game drive in the exclusive Hwange National Park after checking in. There is a decent chance of seeing the big cats on this three-hour drive, which goes far into the night.
The day will begin with a breakfast, followed by the Hwange National Park Safari Experience. This could be a game drive in the exclusive Hwange National Park concession. Depending on the guide’s advice regarding where the wildlife is, game drive routes within the park or concession are determined. There are two options for the game drive: a full-day safari experience or morning and afternoon game drives with lunch at the resort.
On your final day, you will go on a morning game drive in the private concession before checking out after breakfast. Depending on when you have a flight, you will need to transit to the airport. You will be driven to the Victoria Falls Airport for your flight home, where you will say farewell while carrying pleasant memories of your safari trip and looking forward to seeing one another soon.
