Mount Elgon National Park is a national park found in two East African Countries Uganda and Kenya. In Uganda the park is located in Eastern part of Uganda in Bukalasi, Manjiya, Bududa district 140 kilometers of Lake Victoria, and in Kenya it is located in north Kisumu and west of kitale. The Park covers an area of 1279 square kilometers (494 sq. mi) and is bisected by border of Uganda and Kenya. The Uganda part covers about 1110 km (430 sq. mil) while the Kenyan part covers 169 km (65 sq. mil). The Ugandan part was gazette in 1992 while the Kenya part was gazette in 1968. With Wagagai as its highest peak, 4321-meter-tall Mont Elgon is an extinct volcano that last erupted more than 24 million years ago. Despite being the fourth highest peak in east Africa, Mount Elgon is one of the greatest Uganda safari destinations since it has the largest surface area of any extinct volcano on Earth.

Itinary in details

After breakfast, your driver-guide will pick you up in Kampala, and after briefing you, you’ll drive to the east through a number of districts with beautiful scenery, such as the Mabira forest, tea and sugarcane plantations in Lugazi, Lake Victoria, the River Nile at the Owen falls dam, Jinja town, and more. If you still have time, you could explore Sipi Falls and the surrounding environs after arriving in Mbale town and eating lunch. Eat dinner and spend the night at Mbale Resort Hotel or Sipi Falls Camp (on a budget) (Luxury).

Get up early, eat breakfast, and then go with a packed lunch. Meet the park rangers who will give you a briefing and be ready to lead you over the mountain routes. There will also be porters who can help you carry your stuff if it’s heavy. You can begin on any route, such as the Budadiri Forest Exploration Center, Kapkwai, or Kapkwata.
