The enormous Victoria Falls is also referred to as Mosi-a-Tunya, which means “The Smoke that Thunders” in local dialect. It is situated on the Zambezi River in Southern Africa, close to the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe. It is a Natural Wonder and home to the largest water curtain in the world; it is over a mile wide and about 350 feet tall. As a result, over time, it has drowned tourists from various countries. A Scottish explorer and missionary by the name of David Livingstone found the waterfall in 1855. Some claim he wasn’t the first to notice the impressive falls, but he is credited with giving them the Queen of Britain’s name, Victoria, and with both the literal and figurative inclusion of the waterfall on the map. A safari to the Victoria Falls is truly magical and should be on everyone’s bucket list.
