5 Days Gorillas & Wildlife in Akagera

You will be greeted and assisted by our company representative when you arrive at Kigali’s international airport. You’ll move on to Akagera National Park after the interaction. After arriving, eat lunch before taking a boat ride on Lake Ihema in the afternoon to look for various water-loving creatures like hippos, enormous crocodiles, and water birds like the papyrus gonolek, shoebill stork, and African fish eagle.

Dinner and accommodation are provided at the Akagera Game Lodge, Umbrella Pine, or Dereva Hotel.

After breakfast, you’ll head out on a game drive to look for predators that rise early, including lions, elephants, buffaloes, hyenas, impalas, oribi, bushbuck, antelope, zebra, cape eland, giraffe, and a host of other species. Return to the lodge for lunch before taking a boat ride on the River Akagera and to nearby lakes in the afternoon. This will expose you to a variety of water-loving birds and other animals that congregate on the shores of the lakes to drink.

You will travel to Ruhengeri town, which is close to Volcanoes National Park, after breakfast. Take a quick tour of the town and the nearby markets when you first arrive. After that, go to your lodging—Kinigi Guest House, Mountain Gorilla View Lodge, or Le Bambou Gorilla Lodge—for dinner and an overnight stay.

You must go to the Park’s main office to register and be assigned to a gorilla group after breakfast. Following a brief explanation of the gorilla rules, your ranger guide will accompany you into the forest as you look for the great apes. In order to find gorillas, you must hike through the Volcano Virunga Hills and Green Valley. This activity can be exhausting, but once you encounter gorillas, you will undoubtedly forget all the difficulties you had to overcome. You will spend an hour with the gorillas after meeting them, giving you time to take pictures. You will then be transferred back to your lodge where you can unwind with the experiences and memories from your gorilla trek. You can experience culture by going to the twin lakes of Burera and Ruhondo in the evening.

After breakfast, you will be driven to Kigali for a quick city tour, during which you can see the memorials to the genocide, neighborhood schools, and vibrant markets. After that, you will be driven to the airport to catch your flight home.
