This 6-day Malawi & Zambia Safari begins in Lilongwe, Malawi’s capital city. This morning, your guide will pick you up from your pre-tour hotel in the city. After leaving Lilongwe, your guide will take you to the Zambia/Malawi border, where you will cross into Zambia and continue to the South Luangwa Valley. Our first resort is situated in the Luangwa Valley’s game-rich Mfuwe region, inside the South Luangwa National Park. Mid-afternoon finds us at the safari lodge where we will check into our cozy chalets and unwind while enjoying the Luangwa River view. Take a refreshing dip in one of the pools before relaxing and taking in the natural backdrop of the African bush. This evening, a delectable dinner is served either outside at the lodge or in the roomy dining area.

Today, we’ll venture into the wild bush at the ideal times of day for wildlife viewing: early mornings and late afternoons. Early mornings are the best times to catch nocturnal hunters returning from their hunt. Then, when the midday heat declines and darkness falls, the creatures of the night emerge, animals start to stir in the late afternoons. After sundown, our afternoon wildlife drive transforms into a night drive that is illuminated by bright spotlights. This African Safari includes one of the top-notch night wildlife drives in South Luangwa National Park.

The wildlife drives are led by professional qualified guides in open 4×4 safari vehicles. These knowledgeable local guides are eager to impart their extensive knowledge of the Luangwa Valley’s fauna with you. We will return to the safari lodge for delectable deli-style meals from the a la carte menu in between our morning and afternoon wildlife excursions. Later in the evening you’ll have free time to unwind at the lodge. Swim, browse the library, enjoy the outdoors from one of the decks, and take a nap in your personal chalet are all options.

This morning, after breakfast, we will depart South Luangwa Valley and head out of Malawi. We will cross back into Malawi and travel to Lilongwe, where we will transfer for our two-hour trip to Lake Malawi. We will enjoy our picnic lunch along the way. When we arrive at the shores of enormous Lake Malawi, we will board a boat and go to our accommodation on a nearby lake island. The boat excursion takes us on a beautiful cruise down the Linthipe River and out to the Marelli Island Archipelago of Lake Malawi. On Nankoma Island in Lake Malawi National Park, three kilometers from the lake’s shore, is our Lake Malawi lodge is where we will stay. We will have supper, bed, and breakfast accommodations in cozy tented huts with private bathrooms and views of the lake.

Today, spend the day relaxing at the island lodge and participating in a range of activities. Explore the island by kayak or snorkeling (included in the cost of your excursion). Walk around the island, taking the nature route to the summit and spotting birds along the while. The lodge also provides thrilling extracurricular activities (at an additional cost), such as a boat tour around Nankoma Island to observe fish eagles and cormorant colonies. Scuba diving, windsurfing, and wakeboarding are further optional activities. Scuba diving is a well-liked pastime at Lake Malawi, which is renowned for its abundance of vividly colored Cichlid fish and is home to over 800 species of fish.
