2 Days Dian Fossey Hike

Description

The 2 Days Dian Fossey Hike Tour is a quick excursion that will take you to the Volcanoes National Park to see Dian Fossey’s grave. Dian Fossey was a primatologist who spent her entire life studying and protecting endangered mountain gorillas. On the safari, you will hike to the Karisoke Research Center, where you can see Dian Fossey’s grave and get a close-up look at various animals, primates, and bird species. Dian Fossey was born on January 16th, 1932, and passed away on December 26th, 1985. From 1966 until her death in 1985, she conducted a thorough study of mountain gorilla groups. She was an American primate researcher and conservationist. Paleoanthropologist Louis Leakey initially persuaded her to work there, where she spent each day studying them in Rwanda’s dense forests. Fossey’s account of her earlier career and scientific study of the gorillas at Karisoke Research Center and it can be found in the book Gorillas in the Mist, which was released two years prior to her passing. It was made into the same-named 1988 motion picture.

Itinary in details

On the first day of the two-day Dian Fossey hike, our driver guide will meet you at the Kigali international airport and give you an introduction to the safari before taking you on a transfer to Kigali for a city tour. You will have the opportunity to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial Center, Kimironko Market, and craft shops during the city tour, among other places. Following the city tour, you’ll have lunch at one of the local eateries before setting out for the northwest region of Rwanda’s Volcanoes National Park. The drive takes two to three hours, and along the way you’ll see beautiful sights like terraced farmland, rolling hills, locals, and traditional homesteads. When you arrive, you’ll proceed to check into the lodge. If you have time, you can drive to the twin lakes of Lake Burera and Ruhondo, where you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of the sun setting over hills, terraced farmland, fishermen casting their lines, and various bird species, among other things. After your tour of Twin Lakes, you’ll drive to the lodge where you’ll spend the night and have dinner.

On the final day of the two-day Dian Fossey hike tour, you will have an early breakfast, put on appropriate hiking gear, carry your lunch, and meet your driver guide to travel to the park headquarters for a briefing on the Dian Fossey hike. You will drive to the trailhead after the briefing and then walk for about 10 minutes to reach the park’s border. You can begin your hike to the Karisoke Research Center, which is located halfway between Mount Bisoke and Mount Karisimbi, from the park’s border. As you hike through the lush forest, you’ll get amazing views of animals like forest elephants, enormous forest hogs, primates, and various bird species, among others. When you arrive at the research center, you will be able to see Dian Fossey’s grave, which was murdered in 1985 and buried next to her favorite gorilla friend digit and other 20 mountain gorillas, some of which were killed by poachers, as well as learn about her work and the legacy she left behind, which still exists today. Following your picnic lunch and the Dian Fossey experience, you will begin your ascent back to the starting point, where your driver guide will be waiting to take you back to the lodge so you can unwind and freshen up.

Following a period of relaxation, you will check out of the hotel and meet your driver/guide for transportation to the international airport of Kigali for your flight home or to a hotel in Kigali.
